First let us talk about the Institute of Forestry, Pokhara Campus (IOF-PC). This campus is one of the popular B.SC forestry College in Nepal. It has been in operation since 1981 as the Institute of Forestry’s Central Campus, one of the Tribhuvan University’s five technical institutes.

The IOF was established in 1947 as the Nepal Forestry Institute at Singh Durbar, Kathmandu, and later relocated to Suping (BhimPhedi) in 1957 and Hetauda in 1965.

The IOF was administered by the Department of Forests until July 1972, when it was absorbed into Tribhuvan University and renamed the Institute of Forestry.

To satisfy the country’s expanding demand for experienced and competent natural resource managers, the IOF established the IOF-PC, which launched two academic programs: a two-year Technical Certificate in Forestry (TCF) and a three-year Professional Certificate in Forestry (PCF).

In 1995, the latter was converted to a four-year curriculum, while the former was phased out. It began offering a Master of Science (M.Sc.) program in 2004 and currently offers courses in (a) forestry, (b) watershed management, (c) natural resource management and rural development, and (d)  community forestry. 

The IOF-PC has also assisted the IOF Dean’s Office in establishing the Doctoral Program in Forestry. It also offers short-term national and international training and workshops in forestry and related areas, in addition to regular academic programs.

Through well-designed educational programs that address contemporary national and worldwide demands in forestry and related subjects,  teaching and research at IOF-PC  preserve and enrich creative traditions.

2. Institute of Forestry Hetauda Campus

The next top B.SC Forestry College in Nepal is the IOF Hetauda Campus. The Institute of Forestry, Hetauda Campus (IOF-HC) is Nepal’s first and only institute dedicated to forestry and natural resource management education and training.

In 1947, the Nepal Forestry Institute was established under the Department of Forest in Singh Durbar, Kathmandu. It relocated to Supping (Bhim Phedi) in 1957 and then to Hetauda in 1965 to take advantage of the Indian Co-operation Mission’s improved physical facilities (ICM).

In July 1972, the institute united with Tribhuvan University and was renamed “Institute of Forestry.” Since 1981, it has exclusively conducted two-year certificate-level forestry courses in Hetauda.
